Basic gameplay[edit | edit source]
The game is divided into two modes: Strategy and Combat. During Strategy periods, players will position units, build fleets, assign officers, review enemy fleet dispositions, and receive new missions. During Combat periods, Players will set their initial fleet position, review initial enemy locations, choose ordinance/munitions for applicable vessels, and determine which squadrons to deploy.

The success of strategy will rely on strict attention to managing Supply and Fleet Points between combat missions. Supply controls income and expenditures based on relationships with the Colonies and Fleet Points govern the maximum size of combat units.
As a general rule, players will need to recruit and assign officers as a top priority, as colonies will become less loyal over time and produce less Tylium. Without steady income, it will be difficult to build new ships and maintain fleet integrity.
Combat
Prior to beginning a combat round, the player will have the ability to place ships in an initial formation and select appropriate munitions and squadrons, as available. This is a critical, initial move on the part of the player and should warrant some time and patience when considering the mission objectives and opposing force. While players will not know the disposition of enemy units, rotating the camera view on the placement screen will frequently reveal their starting positions, relative location on the z-axis, and initial numbers.
Combat begins with the player's fleet completing an FTL jump; at this time, players will take control of individual units or break the fleet into subteams to achieve objectives.
After the player positions all units, the player can end the turn, at which point all combat ships will execute commands and the enemies will respond. Combat continues until mission objectives are met, which may include ship-to-ship boarding, escort duties, rescues, interception, or destroying all enemy units.

Tips and tricks[edit | edit source]
For the main campaign, Broken Alliance, and Sin & Sacrifice DLCs, prioritize recruiting officers with Tylium bonuses with fortified colonies. Once promoted, their colonies produce significantly more for the cause.
Officers do not need to have large fleets to encourage Colonies to produce the maximum Tylium benefit; even an officer in a single Manticore is considered a 'fortified' colony.
Play Battlestar Galactica
Starting with the Resurrection DLC, combat controls have improved greatly, allowing players to issue multiple ship commands. It is highly encouraged that beginning players purchase a combination of the core game with this DLC to reap the benefits of the enhanced combat system.
The 'auto-resolve' feature is a mixed blessing; because it uses raw fleet points in the calculation, even clumsy fleets can win battles if their fleet points are substantially high enough. However, using the auto-resolve bypasses any experience gains reached by actual combat, resulting in no XP gains for ships and officers.
